University Hospitals works with a large constituency of donors and supporters. The constituents’ engagement with the organization is philanthropic and social as well as clinical, creating myriad touchpoints for any given donor.
University Hospitals had used BWF predictive models and analytics insights for nearly a decade. While they appreciated a solution specifically tailored to their business needs and questions, they found performance dropping over time as legacy modeling fell short on capturing philanthropic potential in a dynamic, effective manner, often resulting in missed or under-realized fundraising opportunities. Also, since BWF last delivered its legacy models, University Hospitals had completed a system-wide migration to Epic, which provided access to a breadth and depth of HIPAA-compliant data not previously accessible. The team wanted to integrate that data with existing Raiser’s Edge data to provide line of sight into clinical experience information that is often essential to identifying warmth and likelihood.
“We are now able to optimize portfolios and respond in a timely manner to emerging prospects, whether that be for warming or discovery. The ‘pace’ of insights has been calibrated to our new business model, allowing for more dynamic and impactful fundraiser activity and increased major gift production through the Because of You campaign.”Charlene HarnerDirector of Development Services • University Hospitals
To maximize success, fundraisers knew they had to work with the most relevant data possible and so decided it was time to find an AI modeling solution to both provide more real-time insight and leverage their recent Epic integration. BWF engineered a custom Donor AI environment to retrain and re-score the entire constituency monthly to identify those most likely to make a major gift ($100K or greater).
University Hospitals was able to reduce pipeline friction by 4x with more relevant data in hand to guide strategies. The fundraising team went from past heuristics and “effective but often outdated” scoring to data-informed intelligence that upped their fundraising efforts to a new level.
