UVA Plans New School of Data Science; $120 Million Gift is Largest in University History

The University of Virginia announced plans to establish a School of Data Science, an effort made possible in part by the largest private gift in the institution’s 200-year history.

UVA announced its plan for the school and the supporting gift of $120 million during a ceremony in the Rotunda Dome Room.

UI’s Institute for Vision Research Receives $5 Million Gift for Blinding Eye Disease

The University of Iowa Institute for Vision Research recently received a $5-million gift from Alice and John Butler to establish the Alice L. and John E. Butler Vision Research Fund, which will go toward gene and stem-cell research for blinding eye disease.

University of Florida and UF Health Announce $20 Million Gift from the Lauren and Lee Fixel Family Foundation

The University of Florida and UF Health have received a $20 million gift from the Lauren and Lee Fixel Family Foundation that will be used to establish the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases at UF Health, an institute focused on advancing research, technological innovation and clinical care for Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s, Lewy body, ALS, dystonia and concussions.

The Fixel Family’s gift will be matched dollar for dollar by UF. The total $40 million funding package will catalyze a $100 million capital campaign to provide additional resources for scientists and doctors working to advance treatments of neurological disorders at the institute.

Alumni Couple Makes $6.25 Million Gift Commitment for Rector Scholarship Centennial Initiative

In support of DePauw University’s commitment to the success of each student, an anonymous alumni couple has used estate planning to document their future gift for the Rector Scholarship endowment. Their deferred estate gift has a current value of $6.25 million and is the largest commitment to date for the Rector Scholarship Centennial Initiative.

Wexner Fund Gives $20 Million to Nationwide Children’s Family Healing Center

Nationwide Children’s Hospital has received a $20 million gift from the Wexner Family Charitable Fund for The Center for Family Safety and Healing, a center that addresses all aspects of family violence and whose board chairman is Abigail Wexner.
