BGCA gets $3 million grant from Staples

09/01/2010The Boys & Girls Clubs of America has announced a three-year, $3 million grant from the Staples Foundation for Learning to continue its support of BCGA's Torch Clubs program. The commitment will enable BGCA to expand the program, which works to foster character development, positive self-esteem and personal growth, listening and speaking skills, and academic achievement in youth between the ages of 11 and 13. The new grant extends a previous six-year, $6 million commitment from the Staples Foundation to the program.

UnitedHealthcare Commits $1.95 Million to the American Heart Association to Help Get People Walking

08/31/2010UnitedHealthcare has announced a three-year, $1.95 million commitment to the American Heart Association to help encourage Americans to start and maintain walking and exercise regimens. The funding will be used to help establish walking paths around the country, with the goal of creating a hundred and fifty new paths in the first year, and to provide expanded online resources through the association's Start! Walking Web site.

GE Foundation Awards $2 Million Grant to the Louisiana Public Health Institute

08/30/2010The GE Foundation has announced a $2 million grant to the Louisiana Public Health Institute to increase access to school-based health centers in New Orleans. Awarded through GE's $25 million Developing Health program, which is designed to improve primary care access in underserved U.S. communities, the grant will support an effort by LPHI's School Health Connection program to increase use of school-based health centers among already eligible students while extending services to students in neighboring schools, family members, and nearby residents.
