Starting in 2010, individuals regardless of their incomes can convert their traditional individual retirement accounts (IRAs) to Roth IRAs. However, because traditional IRAs were made with pre-tax dollars, persons who convert to Roth IRAs will have the entire amount of the funds converted added to their adjusted gross incomes and taxed at ordinary income tax rates.

IRA charitable rollovers are back! The $700 billion bailout legislation President Bush signed into law on October 3, 2008, extended opportunities for IRA owners age 70 1/2 to make direct, tax-free transfers to charitable organizationsup to $100,000 in both 2008 and 2009.
